After falling in love with the original 21 Day Fix, we were so excited to step up our fitness game once again with the 21 Day Fix Extreme! The new program from Autumn Calabrese includes helps you see max results and lean out quickly! I was totally blown away by my 21 Day Fix Extreme Results shown below.
I really love the workouts because they have more variety and target more muscles through plyometrics, drop sets, and band work. Each workout is designed to help you build muscle and burn fat for a learner, toner body in 3 weeks.
My 21 Day Fix Extreme Review
The very first workout, Plyo adds jump training to challenge your legs in a new way. I will say this program is definitely lower-body focused. You’re going to do upper body moves, but everyday is basically legs!
My favorite workouts from the program are Lower Fix and Cardio Fix.
You’ll use weights for 30 seconds on the Lower Fix then do jump training the last 30 seconds to really challenge every leg muscle. It’s intense, but the 30-second intervals make it go by fast. I also like the Cardio workout in this one better the original! It’s tough but a lot of fun. She also mixes in anaerobic moves into the workout which helps you burn even more fat!
I didn’t care for the Pilates workout.
It uses a band – which is something common in a pilates workout – but it’s awkward. I found myself skipping or changing some of the moves to just get through the workout. By week 3, I just used the original 21 Day Fix Pilates workout, and I still felt like I better burn from it than the new version.
The meal plan is very similar.
You’ll still use the containers, but you don’t have room in the meal plan to have a treat. I was totally okay with that – I mean, it’s 3 weeks!
The Countdown to Competition meal plan was a nice addition!
I followed it, and the nutrition guide actually tells you what Autumn eats specifically for each meal before a fitness competition.
The additional workouts are worth it.
Expect Drop Sets in the Upper Fix workout.
You’ll go heavy weights for 30 seconds and lighter weights for 30 seconds.
I didn’t like the modifier at all.
She is already in shape. She complains. The modifications aren’t great, and you can’t see her a lot. Can you tell that I didn’t like the modifications…at all?!
I’m not sure it’s more “Extreme” than the original.
It’s different, but I feel like that doesn’t necessarily mean harder workouts. Either program will help you build muscle and burn fat.

My 21 Day Fix Extreme Results
The bottom picture is after – I lost a total of 6.25 inches and 12lbs within 3 weeks!
After getting married in 2014, I ate about like my husband! My portions were double what I should have eaten plus more fast food than I ever had even imagined eating!! This plan helped jumpstart my results and start to get back to my pre-wedding, healthy weight! I still can’t get over my 21 Day Fix Extreme results for just 3 weeks of hard work. I plan on doing another round and then graduating to Hammer and Chisel.
Who is this workout program for?
The new program is created anyone wanting to lean everything out and get shredded. The moves are all really intense, but it’s also really focused on eating the right amount of the right types of food. I would recommend this program to an intermediate to advanced exerciser that wants to go to the next level.
21 Day Fix Extreme vs 21 Day Fix
Extreme is more intense than the original. It has more jumping in it and a little shorter warm up and cool down.
The meal plan is also more strict, but it is still very realistic and can help you have great results in 3 weeks. There is a regular eating plan and then “Countdown to Competition” eating plan. The Extreme meal plan is very similar to the original, but it has no cheats on it. Then, the Countdown to Competition follows more of a Paleo-based diet. Neither one has you starving or dropping below 1200 calories, though.
Do I have to do the original 21 Day Fix first?
You don’t have to, but I do recommend it. Even after going through both programs I’m still not 100% sold that this program is harder than the original. It’s definitely different and a good change and shock to the system after the original, but I think both programs have their strengths and work well together.
The original is also still intense. You can make it hard even for an advanced exerciser. (Read more on the original here)
Do you need Shakeology? What does it count as?
Shakeology is considered a red container (a protein). You can choose to use Shakeology like I did or substitute it with any other red container option.
What is the 21 Day Fix Extreme Meal Plan Like?
It’s very similar to the original using containers instead of counting calories. The only difference in the 21 Day Fix Extreme meal plan from the original is you have more nutrient yellows and no treats. I did the Countdown to Competition meal plan which was is lower carb on 2 days and original meal plan on the 3rd day.
You can choose to the Countdown to Competition meal plan or stick to the original meal plan. The Countdown to Competition plan has more protein and veggies with fewer starches. In the picture above, Monday was my “Countdown” meals and then Tuesday was a normal meal plan.

Can the 21 Day Fix Extreme meal plan work with my vegetarian or gluten-free diet?
Yes, you can choose any food from the list above to fill your containers or use in a recipe. You can pick and choose what you eat on the plan, and you’ll still have amazing results.
Do I have to eat all my foods separately since it’s containers?
Nope, you can mix in recipes! Autumn has a great cookbook as well that is broken down into containers.
The 21 Day Fix Extreme Workouts
Do I need weights?
Yes – each workout uses weights besides yoga. You’ll want a mat, set of light and heavy dumbbells and a 15-lb (or light) resistance band. I use 5, 8 and 10lb weights.
Can I modify the moves for my needs?
Yes – definitely! There is a modifier, but I will say – the modifications are tougher than the original 21 Day Fix. In the original, Kat (the modifier) was able to really modify the moves and still be challenged. In this program, the modifier just doesn’t jump as high, go as deep into the moves, and lifts a lighter weight. You can always modify for your needs.
What do the workouts look like??
Just like original, all of the workouts are 30 minutes. Each workout does include a warm up and cool down. You also receive a 10 Minute Hardcore workout which you can do twice a week.

How much room do I need?
I suggest 6 feet because you’ll be moving back and forth, jumping and going side to side.
