We are going to see American Reunion tonight! We watched the first 3
because the other 5+ don’t count last weekend to get ready for this one. They aren’t my favorite movies by any means, but they are pretty funny!! Are you going to see them? What are doing? Before we head off to the movies, I’m answering 5 questions for Fitness Friday!
I decided to answer 5 of the most asked questions this Friday! :) I hope they help someone! :)
Fitness Friday FAQ
How many calories should I eat?
There is a nifty formula for this! Check out How Many Calories Should I Eat for it!
I am doing [Insanity, P90X, TurboFire,…insert fitness program here], but I am really busy. I can’t follow the meal plan, does it really matter?
YES! You have to follow the meal plan! You want to calculate how many calories you should be eating, and then follow the meal plan. I know it’s hard! If it was easy, everyone would look like a fitness model! You aren’t everyone–you are the 1% working hard to get extreme results.
You burn 500-1000 calories during Insanity and similar workouts, so if you burn a 1000 calories and eat a 1000 calories….your body has nothing to fuel itself! It will go into starvation mode then and that mean it will hold onto every piece of fat it has! By adding calories to your diet, your body will get used to being fueled and stop starving itself. This will help give you energy and rebuild the muscles you worked during your workout! Your body’s ability to rebuild the muscles is essential for gaining lean muscle and burning the fat off!
Can I eat all of my calories at once, or do I need to space them out?
I like to eat every 2-4 hours and have something with a carb and a protein like an apple with peanut butter or greek yogurt with berries. I think it helps to 3-4 meals throughout the day because it helps stablize your blood sugar, hormones, energy, and appetitie–basically, it keeps you feeling satisfied and feeling good! I typically eat breakfast (8am), lunch (11am), snack (1:30-2pm), dinner (4:30-5pm…yup i’m old for 23!), and snack (at about 7pm).
I can feel my muscles getting stronger, but feel ‘bulky’ in the arms and legs cause of the muscle under the little bit of fat left. How do I get rid of that?
You’ve reached the point athletes call the “lean-out phase”. It can take anywhere from 4 days to 3 weeks to SEE the difference, but you’ll start feeling it faster. While you are eating clean right now, you may need to tighten up your diet and keep a food journal for a little while. While you shouldn’t cut out all carbs, cut out the starchy ones in the evening and ditch sugar (I know this goes against my 10% splurge, but this is only temporary). Some good carbs to eat would be whole grains, oats, and yams. Also limit salt (sodium) and any processed foods because they bloat you. Also, just make sure you are getting 2 cardio sessions in each week.
