3 Eat Clean Smoothies for After Your Workout

Jenga -- Game Date NightI feel like it’s been about 10 years since I posted, and I have all of these ideas! I hope I can get them all out there this week! These smoothies were worth the wait I hope!

Friday I was a substitue at the school where I did my teaching interm. I enjoyed seeing my old students, and it was nice  to see that they knew the material I taught them and that they missed me.

Saturday night Jake and I had a game night–have you ever seen Jenga this tall before? He won the best 2 out of 3, but I whipped his butt in Mario Kart. (11 to 1 sucka!!)

Lately, I have been playing with smoothies after my workouts because I really hate protein oatmeal and straight protein shakes. After you workout, whether you are doing cardio or strength training, your body loses some of its nutrients and your muscles have micro-tears. It is important to restore your body’s balance with the proper foods after an intense workout to prevent muscle soreness and increase your results. It also helps my energy. I personally think smoothies are better than solid food because it is easier for your body to digest and will get into your system faster.

Here are three of my favorite smoothies to drink after a workout:

Workout Recovery Shake

Apple Pie Shake

8 oz organic apple juice
1/2 cup plain, high fiber cereal
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1 tsp cinnamon
Handful of Ice

Orange-You-Glad-You-Worked-Out? Smoothie

1/2 peeled navel orange
1 cutie orange (or small orange)
1/4 cup strawberries (frozen is preferred)
1/2 cup Trop 50 Orange Juice
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt (greek or regular)
Handful of Ice
Healthy Strawberry Milkshake
Strawberry Vanilla Milkshake

12 oz unsweetened or sweetened vanilla almond milk
1 pack Tropical Shakeology
4 Medium Strawberries

If you don’t have time to make anything, Beachbody’s Results & Recovery formula is also great! It’s pricey, but I think it’s worth looking at if you are doing intense workouts frequently. It tastes good and the dextrose-blend doesn’t irritate my stomach. Chocolate skim milk is also a great choice! I just tend to skip it because I usually get enough dairy in my diet without it.
