Halloween is next Wednesday, and I don’t have a Halloween costume yet!
Freshmen year of college, I went as a dancer or something. My roommate, in the black jacket, was Angelina Jolie back in the Tomb Raider days. We were not very creative and cheap.
I have never had a very Halloween costume even when I have had money though. Even as a kid, the scariest I dressed was a witch. Most years I was a black cat (a classic staple for about 3 years), but I mixed it up as a nerd, flapper, and Sandy from Grease.
2009 – I was single, and I went as Eve (as in Adam & Eve). While it made for a good pick-up line that I was too chicken to use, mostly I went with costume because 1) it covered my stomach 2) it was $18.
2010 – I met Jake that summer, and we went as Lois and Clark. Total cost of my costume $4 for the Daily Planet badge to be laminated.
Last year, I attempted a Dolly Parton costume, but it ended up being a diaster. I then defaulted to a large chicken costume I had bought at Target after Halloween last year.
It was STILL $50, but I thought it would be adorable whenever I have kids and go trick-or-treating with them. I know you typically have the baby before you plan their 1st costume, but I’m a super planner. :p
This year, I am thinking I will break out an old Abercrombie & Fitch plaid skirt and a oxford shirt to be a Catholic school girl. It’s typical, but it’s cheap. It’s also been a good motivation to eat healthy and workout. Jake has not even thought about his costume, so maybe he will be a headmaster.
