With more shaving subscriptions popping up, is Dollar Shave Club for women still a great deal? Or is it time we finally get our girly new razors delivered to the house at a great deal?

The best razors and shaving cream cost a small fortune, and it’s recommended you use a new razor weekly! Which is one reason I stole one of my husband’s cheap razors from Dollar Shave Club to try out.

I wanted high-quality razors without spending $30! But I will say it looks very masculine sitting in my shower. So I decided to also try Billie, a women’s razor subscription service — more on that later!

My husband gets 5 new razors with Dollar Shave Club each month for about $20 — which is way cheaper than my current Gillette Venus razors. It includes five-blade razor cartridges, and he can cancel it at anytime.

What are razor subscriptions?

Razor subscriptions offer to ship you new blades (and often times skin care items like shave cream) to your door on a set schedule. You can customize your subscription based on how fast you go through your razors, and if you’d like any of the shaving extras like shaving cream or body lotion.

How Does the Dollar Shave Club Work?

  1. You tell them how you get ready, and they’ll send you samples to try.
  2. From there, they’ll ship you a box (discounted) with full-size products.
  3. Then you can add or remove items and adjust when the box comes.

What I Received

I mentioned wanting to try Dollar Shave Club for women (It’s just really men’s products – but hair is hair!), and they sent me my own mini starter kit.

Here’s what was included in my first box:

  • One Wipe Charlies in Peppermint
  • Dr Carver’s Easy Shave Butter
  • Wanderer Hydrating Body Cleanser (Calming Amber & Lavender)
  • 1 Razor Handle
  • 4 Razor Blades with 6-Blades
  • MEL my bathroom reader (of course!)

Now, it should be noted this is definitely a product geared towards men.

With that said, there is a reason some women use men’s deodorant. It doesn’t have to be floral to be worth using!

The wipes I probably wouldn’t use for there, um, intended purpose. But they will be nice in my car or purse for when my hands need wiping.

The Shave Butter has a light smell kind of like a spa versus super manly. It’s okay-level moisturizing as well.

The Wanderer Hydrating Body Cleanser also smells spa-like over super manly.

I wouldn’t fuss if Jake had on either, but I also don’t smell like a lumberjack after using either.

The main reason I wanted this was for the razors!

My Dollar Shave Club Razor Review

So how did my shave experience go?

It was good! I got a smooth shave without any razor burn, and I have pretty sensitive skin.

I feel like I got a better shave with this razor compared to my expensive one from the store.

If you don’t mind the masculine marketing, I’d say grab this one all day long! It works. It’s cheap. It’s good.

I would also highly suggest it for a man.

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

It should also be noted I used Gillette’s women’s shaving cream versus one of Dollar Shave Club’s products.

Is the Dollar Shave Club worth it?

I’ll definitely take four 6-blade razors for $9! That’s half the price of what I paid in the store.

Plus, if I was a guy – it would be great to add on their skin, haircare, and oral care products. I know guys can forget to grab that stuff at the store so this would be super convenient for them.

As a woman though – I’ll stick to just the razors.

Is it Better than Billie?

Billie is a women’s shaving club with pretty, colorful handles, a magnetic holder, and 5-blade women’s razors. It may be silly, but the colorful colors and price point are two of the main reasons I wanted to try it!

While their razors have aloe-vera and charcoal in the top of the razor, I found I got a closer shave on my legs and armpits with the Dollar Shave Club razors!

While I love that Billie is trying to get rid of the “pink tax” — an added cost for products marketed to women, I just expected more from their razors.

With that said, the price is about the same, and if you’re wanting additional items like body wash, lip balm, dry shampoo, or shave gel, Billie’s are definitely better scented in my opinion for females.

Bottom Line: Out of the two, Dollar Shave Club offered a clean shave compared to Billie.

How much is Dollar Shave Club a month?

It depends on what option you choose.

You can get four: 6-blade razors for $9, 4-blade razors for $6, or 2-blade razors for $4.

You can also add on the extras like skincare, body wash, wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.

The more you buy the more you save.

Who should use razor subscriptions?

If you’re tired of using disposable razors or are using an old, dull razor now, a razor subscription is a great idea! They are super convenient and offer several razor options at an affordable price.

How often should I receive refill blades?

You can customize how often you receive your next box of Dollar Shave Club for women razors. If you shave daily, we found a monthly subscription to be great timing, but if you shave just a couple times a week you could do every other month!

How long does Dollar Shave Club take to deliver razors?

It takes 24 – 48 hours to process your order, and 3 – 5 business days for you to get it in the mail.

  1. I just signed up for some Dollar Savd Club! Thank you so much for your advice and help. It really made things easier & I’m so excited for it to get here!

  2. I have been a DSC customer for the past 5 years, and recently quit. Why?

Because it USED to be cheaper for me to use their 3 blade heads, but since they changed the design, those started breaking every time I used them. I had no complaints really about the 6 blade razor, other than the fact none of their blades seem as sharp or rust resistant as they used to be, and the shave was no longer anywhere near as close as what I achieved with a high end women’s razor. And there’s now high end style subscription services for women… which cost exactly the same as DSC’s 6 blade subscription.

So I decided to check out new horizons, and signed up for Billie. Billie has totally blown DSC out of the water as far as women are concerned, and at the same exact price if you go with the 6 blade subscription from DSC… which now I’m pretty sure all women have to do, because the new middle subscriptions heads break at the slightest hint of having to bend to reach anything.

The Billie razor gives a much closer shave with 1 less razor (5 total), surrounded in a highly slippery aloe soap to prevent dragging, and packaged in a much more feminine appealing manner. And it even comes with a reusable holder that can be attached to any kind of surface you have on your wall.

I was curious to see what a modern day review of DSC would look like. I’m sad to see it’s full of information that would’ve only been valid about 4 or 5 years ago, when I first signed up for it. I’m terribly disappointed in the decline of quality they’ve had in recent years, with constant price hikes on their subscriptions without any form of added value.

    1. Hey Jq! Thanks for sharing! We’ve been looking at Billie too since we didn’t like that the Dollar Shave Club’s razors don’t tilt. I’m sorry to hear you thought the review was outdated. We just tried the razors for ourselves this year so we must not have know just how good, GOOD just to be! Thanks for the tip on Billie as well!
