As a personal trainer and nutrition coach, I’ve tried so many different shoes over the last 15 years in the fitness world. So I was excited to try out a new pair from OOFOS over the last two weeks.

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, I think you’re going to love these! I’d love to gift every sweet nurse, teacher, hairdresser, and retail person a pair of these if I could because they really make a difference in my knees and right hip flexor. My mom has also talked about how much they’ve helped her back.

We are the two that are always in tennis shoes or sandals. We’ve tried so many different brands so we didn’t really know if OOFOS OOmy Stride sneakers would be any different, but the results after two weeks surprised us!

This review covers when OOFOS make the biggest difference, who they can help, how they held up during our normal weeks of walking, working out, and travel days, what we love, and what you should know before ordering.

Why Trust Us?

We’ve been reviewing health and fitness products for a decade and a half, and we get approached daily by dozens of brands. Out of those we choose only a select few to test and review because we have to truly use and experiment with the product before ever sharing about it. Only after weeks or months of trying do we share the ones that truly make a difference in our everyday lives.

Why We Reviewed OOFOS

One thing we’ve noticed is you can find a ton of information about the best shoes for certain workouts, but it’s really hard to research a pair of comfortable, supportive shoes you can wear in daily life that are designed to support your body and reduce stress on the joints.

And a good pair of shoes is something needed in your 30s, 40s, and 50s, and even well into our 70s and 80s. Why aren’t more people trying and reviewing this type of shoe?!

For this reason, we agreed to test OOFOS OOmy Stride Lace-Up tennis shoes.

So before writing this post, we tested out how we’d use any everyday shoe: neighborhood walks, home workouts, errands, standing at our desks, grocery shopping, and travel.

How We Tested

  • Around 10,000 steps most days
  • Standing desk work
  • Housework (cleaning our homes and parents’ home)
  • Travel
  • Daily errands (grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments, etc)
  • Around the house (initially before wearing them outdoors since we don’t normally wear shoes inside)

What Are OOFOS Recovery Shoes?

OOFOS are recovery footwear built around a foam called OOfoam that absorbs 37% more impact than the foam in traditional shoes. Instead of springing you forward like a running shoe, the foam soaks up the impact of each step so your feet, knees, hips, and back take less of a beating.

The brand has also earned the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for promoting foot health, and if you look at the reviews for the OOFOS OOmy Stride people of all ages are raving about these recovery shoes.

We tested the OOmy Stride, which is their sneaker style. I have the white pair, and my mom has the black pair. It has a stretchy knit upper, a cushioned heel collar, regular laces, and that thick OOfoam sole, and the whole shoe is machine washable.

Our Honest Experience After Two Weeks

These feel different from a cushioned running shoe. The foam almost sinks in under your heel with each step, and the rounded sole rolls your foot forward, so walking felt easier on my joints. It’s the closest thing I can compare to walking on a track surface instead of concrete.

They felt different from my regular sneakers on day one. The rocker shape took a few minutes to get used to, but after that they felt natural.

On Daily Walks and Workdays

I work from home, which sounds easy on the body until you add up neighborhood walks, standing at my desk, and pacing during calls. And since I work from home, I’m also the one my family depends on to do the house cleaning, weekly errands, to visit and sit with a sick family member, and anything else that falls into the miscellaneous. I feel like every time I do leave the house, it’s a long day.

I’ve been wearing the OOmy Strides for my daily walks, and my right knee feels noticeably better afterward than it did in my usual New Balance foam sneakers. I’ve also noticed my right hip flexor, which is almost always tight because I tend to favor that side when I walk, hasn’t been bothering me nearly as much.

Around the house or After a Workout

I wore the shoes initially around the house to see if wearing a shoe would help my knee and hip flexor after a tough leg day workout. I figured it had to help versus going barefoot on our hardwood floors.

They really did seem to help. I’m considering buying another pair or their sandals to wear just around the house. The pair I have would work, but I’m a germaphobe and don’t wear “outside shoes” inside.

One of our best friends has the slides, and he wears them around the house to help support his knee. The women’s slides in black are super cute, too!

For Travel Days

We travel four to six times a year, and travel days are secretly some of the hardest days on your body between airport lines, concrete floors, and hours of sitting.

While I didn’t have to travel during the 2 week test, I know this will be the pair I wear because they’re lightweight and flexible, and I love that they minimize odor. I can also throw them in the washer when I get home!

Kim’s Take

My mom is in her mid-50s and usually wears the Adidas foam sneakers. After two weeks in her black OOmy Strides, she’s noticed less lower back tension at the end of the day, especially on days with more time on her feet.

She also commented that these feel more supportive than her usual sneakers, and she likes that they aren’t narrow, giving her toes a little more room.

OOFOS Sizing: Should You Size Up?

The OOmy Stride fit us true to size. If you run between sizes, like between an 8 and an 8.5 like me, I’d recommend going with the smaller of the two.

The knit upper hugs your foot, and the toe box itself is roomy, so your toes have space to spread out once you’re in.

OOFOS also offers a 30 day risk free trial on their site, so if your size isn’t right, you can send them back at no cost.

OOFOS Pros and Cons

What we love:

  • They’re very supportive without looking like an orthopedic shoe.
  • The foam absorbs impact so my body didn’t feel worn out at the end of a long day.
  • They’re lightweight and flexible, which makes them our new favorite travel shoe.
  • The entire shoe is machine washable, and the footbed lining is antimicrobial.
  • The white and black colors are neutral enough to wear with almost anything casual.
  • They’re versatile, we wear them with leggings, jeans, and casual dresses.

Cons:

  • They cost around $120 so they’re an investment compared to a basic sneaker.
  • These are recovery and everyday shoes, not running or training shoes. We still wear supportive trainers for workouts.
  • Sizing can be tricky with the knit upper, so read the sizing section above before you order.
  • The style is sporty and casual. If you need something dressier, this isn’t that shoe.

Who would like OOFOS?

We’d recommend OOFOS to anyone who spends long hours on their feet, walks daily, travels often, or notices achy feet, knees, hips, or back at the end of the day.

They’re also a great pick for anyone building a recovery habit alongside regular workouts, because recovery is the piece most of us skip.

There isn’t one age group these are made for, either. I love my pair at 37 and very active, but I also know my aunt who is in her late 70s would really benefit from a pair of these due to her feet and back issues.

The Verdict: Are OOFOS Worth It?

Yes! Our bodies, and joints specifically, experience so much impact in our everyday lives. It’s important to find a shoe that is truly supportive to help minimize that wear and tear on our bodies and that supports our joints.

A good workout shoe is important, but that pair is probably worn an hour a day. OOFOS are something you wear the rest of the day, and those hours add up quickly!

Also compared to the foam sneakers we normally wear, the OOmy Strides feel more supportive while still giving our toes plenty of room instead of feeling narrow.

Between the results, the APMA seal, the machine washable design, and the 30 day trial, the OOmy Stride has earned a permanent spot by our front doors.

OOFOS FAQ

Do OOFOS run true to size?

The OOmy Stride fit us true to size. The knit upper is snug at first, but the toe box is roomy, and if you’re between sizes we’d choose the smaller one. OOFOS offers a 30 day risk free trial, so you can exchange them easily if the fit is off.

Can you wear OOFOS all day?

Yes, OOFOS are designed for all day wear. We wear ours for walks, errands, workdays, and travel, and the impact absorption is the whole point of wearing them throughout the day rather than only after workouts.

Are OOFOS good for walking?

We think they’re excellent for casual walking. The rounded sole rolls your foot through each step, and the foam reduces the impact of walking on hard surfaces.

For running or intense training, choose a performance shoe instead.

Are OOFOS good for plantar fasciitis?

Neither of us has plantar fasciitis, so we can’t speak from personal experience on this one. That said, it’s one of the most common reasons people buy OOFOS, and a large number of reviewers with plantar fasciitis report real relief, with several calling these the first shoes that let them walk without pain.

The OOfoam footbed reduces the impact of each step on hard surfaces, and OOFOS has earned the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for promoting foot health. If you have plantar fasciitis or another diagnosed foot condition, we’d recommend checking with your podiatrist first, and the 30 day risk free trial makes OOFOS a low risk option to test for yourself.

How do you clean OOFOS?

The OOmy Stride is machine washable. Wash them on a gentle cycle and let them air dry.

Do they only sell sneakers?

No, OOFOS sells slides and clogs, too! We haven’t tested them out yet, but they have the same technology and awesome reviews. They’re also both really cute.

So whether you wear them around the house or out, you’re going to love them.

Where can you buy OOFOS?

You can buy them directly from OOFOS here. Buying direct also gets you their 30 day risk free trial and six month warranty.
