As fall starts, I always get a little depressed. Call me crazy, but I miss the pool and sundresses. I also could care less about pumpkin anything. Now there are a few fall things I love, but this September is packed with fun things which is helping me stay excited and actually welcoming in fall.
The first of 4 really fun things planned for September was going to Gatlinburg with Jake and two of our friends, Brittany and Tommy.
Jake and I went to Gatlinburg in 2010 after my dad got us a cabin, and we’ve been wanting to go back with friends since.
Jake works 9 to 5 so it’s always such a treat when he takes vacation day. We headed up to the Brady Bunch Cabin early Friday afternoon.
It was a nice cabin. It had huge leather sectional couch, hot tub, and pool table.
One of the things I am dying to buy for our home when we get married is a mammoth-sized couch that we can both lay on comfortably. The current couch is comfortable, but when we both lay on it Jake’s arm goes to sleep because he has to allow for my body to fit on the couch too. The leather was a good change, but it was kind of hot compared to our current cloth one. Do you like cloth or leather couches?
Besides laying around the cabin and watching college football, we hit the Gatlinburg strip. The strip has all kinds of touristy goodies including old time photos, airbrush shirts, and yummy candies. We had a little fudge, but saved room for the Blue Cheese Sirloin at Cherokee Grill. We did call-ahead seating because it’s one of the busier restaurants; it was sweet touch to see our name (or my soon to-be-name) on the specials menu. The whole meal was so good. I didn’t care for the gravy, but the steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare).
Would you like to save this?
After dinner, we hit up Arcadia on the strip. It was a really big arcade. I racked up tickets on ski ball, but I downright sucked at Daytona USA’s racing game which Jake got 1st place in.
You honestly cannot go to Gatlinburg, or Pigeon Forge which is right next to it, without an old-time photo or candy. We naturally chose the candy. The store was so cute too. It looked like something right out of a movie; you can even watch how the taffy was made.
We had a great time with our friends. After dinner and the arcade, we hung out in the hot tub.
Jake and I had been wanting to try Kenny Chesney’s Spiced Coconut Rum with a cocktail recipe he had. I normally would have skipped the alcohol knowing our engagement pictures were in 5 days, but this drink was too tasty. Jake can make a mean cocktail but doesn’t measure everything. His Island in a Cabin Cocktail was a shot of spied coconut rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and a little grenadine.
It’s been awhile since we had seen Brittany and Tommy, and it was so much fun to just be able to hang out.
