If you’ve been looking for an affordable way to get your bloodwork done, I’m excited to share my Superpower experience and how it compared to my mom’s experience using Function Health for lab work.
We wanted to try these services because when I asked my primary care doctor about running a similar selection of tests it was going to be really expensive even with insurance.
Having so many markers tested through one membership was really appealing!

Mom tried out Function Health in March 2026, and when she went for her second blood draw in October, I scheduled my Superpower blood test during the same week. That way we could compare everything from scheduling and testing to results, personalized recommendations, and the apps themselves. You can see her Function Health review here.
My quick review: I loved Superpower’s easy-to-use app, personalized health protocol, and wearable integrations. However, I slightly prefer Function Health because of the selection of biomarkers included for the price. Both were great experiences, and the better choice really depends on what you want tested!
Disclosure: Superpower provided my annual membership complimentary in exchange for trying the service. We purchased Mom’s Function Health membership ourselves. All opinions are based on our personal experiences.
Superpower vs Function Health
Before getting into my experience, here’s how the memberships compare.
| Feature | Superpower Health | Function Health |
|---|---|---|
| Annual membership | Starting at $199; my plan was $349 | $365 |
| Testing | 100+ with basic plan; 150+ across two draws with my plan | 160+ annual tests |
| Included draws | 1 or 2, depending on plan | 2 |
| Testing location | Quest Diagnostics | Quest Diagnostics |
| Personalized health recommendations | Yes | Yes |
| AI chat | Yes | Yes |
| Clinical guidance | On-demand care team | Clinician-reviewed results |
| Biological age | Yes | Yes |
| Wearable integrations | Yes | Yes |
| Additional tests | Extra cost | Extra cost |
| My favorite feature | Personalized protocol | Selection of included biomarkers |
Pricing checked October 2026. Advertised annual biomarker counts include testing across the year and don’t necessarily represent distinct markers. Plans, prices, and availability may change.
Both companies were very similar, but I found Superpower’s app more engaging and liked Function’s clinician notes and the variety of included tests.

One Thing I Loved About Superpower
When you buy your Superpower testing and membership, it will ask you how you are feeling and if you feel like something is going on. For me, I was feeling more tired than normal. I also had had some hormone issues earlier in the year which affected my hair. I included both of these things in my forms, and my protocol and results factored that in.
It was nice to see how the bloodwork and how I was feeling was connected. My iron and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) results were outside the expected ranges, and Superpower helped me understand what those numbers could mean, whether they might relate to how I was feeling, and what I should follow up on.

My Experience With Superpower Blood Testing
The actual testing process was super easy.
I was able to choose from several Quest Diagnostics locations, and there were appointments available that same week or a few weeks out. Superpower also offers at-home testing, too!
Superpower also did a great job preparing me beforehand.
I received texts and emails explaining:
- When to start fasting and what I could drink.
- Which supplements might interfere with blood work.
- Why staying hydrated was important.
- What to expect at my appointment.
I especially appreciated the supplement reminders because certain vitamins can affect lab results, and that’s something I wouldn’t necessarily have thought about!
The Blood Draw
When I arrived at Quest, I checked in and was called back within about five minutes. The person drawing my blood was really nice, and the blood draw itself only took approximately five minutes.
I also completed a urine test.
Mom’s Function Health appointment was almost identical. We both used Quest, had the same friendly technician, and experienced very little waiting.
Superpower also offers at-home blood draws in select areas. My complimentary order included an at-home upgrade valued at $119, but I couldn’t use that option where I live. Thankfully, visiting Quest was convenient.
How Long Did My Results Take?
My Superpower results came back within approximately 10–14 days.
Since I already had a MyQuest account, I could see certain test results as they became available. Superpower also notified me when my complete report was ready.
Some of my tests came back faster than others, and Superpower sent me my protocol and biological age once everything came back.
Function Health was possibly a little faster, but both companies were quick!

What Does Superpower Blood Test For?
My Superpower blood work included markers related to heart health, hormones, thyroid function, inflammation, metabolism, liver and kidney health, and nutrients.
Some of my specific tests included cholesterol, glucose, iron, ferritin, cortisol, thyroid hormones, and sex hormones.
The exact markers depend on the membership you purchase, and additional testing is available for an extra cost.
What surprised me was going through Superpower or Function Health was cheaper than going through our primary care doctors!
Plus, I feel like it’s like pulling teeth to get your comprehensive bloodwork done if you’re going through insurance. This was super affordable and easy to do.

My Superpower Results: What I Actually Learned
When I opened the Superpower app, I immediately saw my health score, biological age, and a breakdown of my biomarkers.
My dashboard showed 93 biomarkers, with 63 considered optimal, 25 normal, and five out of range. I also received a Superpower Score of 81 out of 100 and a biological age of 29.7 years old, which the app calculated as eight years younger than my actual age!
That was fun to see, although I realize biological age is an estimate based on an algorithm rather than a definitive measure of health.
I also liked how the app broke down my results by category, making it easy to see which areas looked good and which needed attention.

My Unexpected Iron Results
One of the most interesting things I discovered was that my iron levels were elevated.
My results included
| Biomarker | My result |
|---|---|
| Total iron | 289 mcg/dL — High |
| Iron saturation | 74% — High |
| Ferritin | 25 ng/mL |
| Iron binding capacity | 389 mcg/dL |
I definitely wasn’t expecting that combination!
I exercise regularly, pay attention to what I eat, and try to be intentional about my health. So seeing my iron levels flagged was a surprise!
It was also a reminder that feeling healthy and having healthy habits doesn’t necessarily mean every biomarker will fall within the expected range.
Superpower highlighted the elevated iron and iron saturation while also identifying ferritin as an area to monitor based on its preferred ranges.
One thing worth understanding about these platforms is that their preferred or optimal ranges may differ from traditional laboratory reference ranges. A flagged result doesn’t automatically mean there’s a medical problem. For example, Quest Labs said my ferritin was in range at 25, but it was at the low end of normal.
I was really glad I could use Superpower’s AI chat to ask questions about my results rather than just stare at numbers and wonder what they meant. It helped me understand what to ask next, and I also discussed my findings with my integrative health coach.

The Superpower App and Personalized Protocol
This was probably my favorite part of Superpower!
After reviewing my results and the health information I’d shared, Superpower created a personalized three-month protocol.
It wasn’t just a generic recommendation to eat healthier and exercise more. It actually connected my blood work, symptoms, and information from my wearable devices.
My protocol focused on nutrients, energy, and sex hormones, with a goal of improving my overall Superpower Score.

It gave me six recommended actions, including repeating my iron and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) tests, discussing certain supplements and medication timing with my healthcare providers, and adding short walks after meals.
Would you like to save this?
The walking recommendation was particularly interesting because I’d connected my Apple Watch, and Superpower used my activity data to suggest it.
It also explained what follow-up testing to discuss with my doctor regarding my elevated iron saturation.

I liked being able to click into each recommendation and read why it was suggested, what to do next, and how to monitor progress.
Superpower AI and Wearable Connections
The Superpower app lets you chat with AI about your results, including what affects your health score or why a particular biomarker was flagged.
I connected my Oura Ring and Apple Watch, so the app could incorporate some of my sleep and activity information, too.
You can also upload previous lab reports, track your results over time, and share reports with your healthcare providers.
My only hesitation was the amount of health advice coming from an app.
Although the recommendations were detailed, I still wanted personalized clinical guidance before making decisions about supplements or medications.
Superpower advertises access to a care team, and its protocol explained how that team could help coordinate further testing. That’s a useful option, although I didn’t personally complete a clinician consultation through the service.
3 Things That Surprised Me About Superpower
1. My unexpected results. I exercise regularly and try to maintain a pretty healthy lifestyle, so seeing elevated iron and low ALP was surprising! I appreciated having an AI chat to help me understand the results and questions to discuss with my healthcare professional.
2. The wearable integrations. Superpower used activity data from my Apple Watch to suggest adding short walks after meals. I liked that the recommendations went beyond blood work alone.
3. The membership pricing. I didn’t realize Superpower offered different memberships! My $349 plan included two blood draws, making it much closer to Function Health’s $365 membership than the advertised $199 starting price suggests.
What I Didn’t Love About Superpower
I had a positive experience overall, but the Superpower app does have a fairly extensive marketplace.
You can purchase additional blood tests, supplements, and certain prescription services through the app. My protocol even linked directly to recommended products, including magnesium glycinate from Thorne.
I like Thorne as a brand, and having everything in one place is convenient, but it occasionally felt like the app was trying to sell me something.
To be fair, Function Health also offers additional testing and supplement-related features, so upselling isn’t unique to Superpower.
I’d also pay attention to the cost of add-on tests and AI credits, since those can increase what you spend beyond the annual membership.
How Much Does a Superpower Membership Cost?
This is where things get a little confusing.
Superpower currently advertises memberships starting at $199 per year, compared with Function Health’s $365 membership.
However, the $199 Superpower option includes one blood draw with 100+ advertised biomarkers.
The Superpower membership I tested was valued at $349 per year and includes 150+ biomarkers across two blood draws: an initial baseline and a mid-year retest.
Function Health costs $365 annually and advertises 160+ tests across two draws.
So the difference between the comparable two-draw memberships is only $16!
Superpower may also charge more in certain states, including New York and New Jersey, and optional at-home collection costs extra.
Which Membership Offers the Better Value?
| If you want… | Choose This |
|---|---|
| Lowest advertised starting price | Superpower’s $199 plan |
| Two included blood draws | Compare Superpower $349 vs. Function $365 |
| Broader included testing | Function, based on our preferred biomarkers |
| Interactive, personalized protocol | Superpower stood out in my experience |
| Clinician-reviewed notes | Function stood out in our comparison |
| Convenient local blood testing | Both were equally easy |
The biggest thing I’d consider is which biomarkers you actually want tested.
Some of Superpower’s optional testing seemed expensive compared with what Function already included or what I could access through my doctor.
My advice: Don’t automatically assume Superpower is cheaper because of its advertised starting price. Compare the included tests, retesting options, and any extras you might want before signing up.
Here’s a screenshot of what I received. It shows free because they did allow me to do this in exchange for a review post.

Superpower vs Function Health: Which Would I Choose Again?
After comparing both apps and our experiences, I genuinely think they’re both good options.
what I Liked About Function Health
I particularly liked that Mom’s Function dashboard included clinician-reviewed notes with a summary of her strengths and areas needing attention.
It also connected different biomarkers and explained how they related to each other.
Function has AI chat and personalized action-plan features, too, although some of the newer features were still in beta when we reviewed her account.
I also preferred Function’s selection of included biomarkers for our personal health interests.
What I Liked About Superpower
Superpower’s app was probably a little more visually appealing, and I really liked its personalized protocol.
It took my results, health information, and connected activity data and turned them into specific actions I could review.
Both platforms offer wearable integrations, AI assistance, and biological age estimates, but I found Superpower’s protocol especially engaging and easy to follow.
Which Would I Buy Again?
If I were choosing next year, I’d probably lean toward Function Health, primarily because of the biomarkers included in its membership.
But both were very comparable and easy to use, and I’d absolutely compare current promotions before buying!
I think Superpower is especially appealing if you want a lower-priced starting option or enjoy interactive health tracking and personalized recommendations.
Function may be the better fit if you want a broader selection of included tests upfront.
Is Superpower Health Legit and Worth It?
Based on my experience, yes. Superpower is a legitimate health testing service, and the entire process worked as expected.
I scheduled my appointment, completed testing at Quest Diagnostics, received my lab results, and got a detailed personalized protocol.
Is it worth the money?
I think it can be, especially if the included testing covers the biomarkers you’re interested in.
For me, the biggest benefit wasn’t my biological age or health score. It was discovering unexpected results and having a way to understand what to discuss with my healthcare professional.
Of course, these memberships aren’t replacements for health insurance, regular medical care, or appropriate follow-up on abnormal results.
My Final Superpower Health Review
Overall, I’m really glad I tried Superpower!
The blood draw was easy, the app was simple to navigate, and I loved how personalized the recommendations felt. Being able to connect my wearables and see my blood work alongside my daily habits was another feature I really liked.
I still slightly prefer Function Health for the selection of biomarkers included, but I wouldn’t hesitate to consider Superpower again, especially if it offered the better price for the tests I wanted.
If you’re deciding between Superpower and Function Health, I’d encourage you to compare the actual tests, number of included draws, and any additional costs before joining.
Both can give you valuable insight into your health. For me, it really comes down to getting the information I want at a price that makes sense!
