This mask contains only 4 ingredients, and each one brings a special benefit to our skin. The other cool thing is you may have all 4 ingredients already in your house! If not, they’re all affordable and pretty easy to find!

Note: Before you apply the mask to your whole face, we recommend doing a small patch of skin as a test. This is just to make sure your skin likes it and doesn’t have any irritation.

The Benefits of Aloe

Fresh aloe vera can help reduce inflammation through compounds, such as acemannan (1).

It also is rich in water which can help hydrate the skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

Also, David Lortscher, M.D., California-based board certified dermatologist and CEO of Curology recently said that aloe vera is an antiseptic because it contains salicylic acid, phenols, and sulfur. All 3 of which can help fight bacteria, exfoliate the skin and help fight acne.

You could even notice firmer skin because of the collagen, zinc, and vitamin C found in the cactus plant (1).

The Benefits of Honey

Honey contains several vitamins, especially B complex and vitamin C. For 1000s of years, honey has been used for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities (2). All of which can help soothe the skin, fight bacteria, and protect the skin’s surface from free radicals.

The Benefits of Lemon

Lemon can help exfoliate the skin naturally because it’s rich in citric acid. This can help alleviate dry skin patches caused by psoriasis and remove dead skin. (3)

The Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar offers antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that can cleanse the skin and help fight acne. (4)

Will This DIY Aloe Vera Mask Work for Acne?

We believe it this DIY aloe vera mask works for acne because of the antibacterial and antioxidant properties found in apple cider vinegar, honey, and aloe vera (4 and 5). The lemon also helps exfoliate the skin which can help with existing blemishes.

Can aloe vera clear dark spots?

Dermatologist, Dr. Gordon, shared that aloe can help prevent skin discoloration by suppressing UV-induced hyperpigmentation. He went on to say  glutathione peroxide, a compound in aloe, may fade sun damage that’s already formed (1).

Another study on cells found that aloesin prevented hyperpigmented laboratory-produced human skin from producing more melanin (6).

how do i use aloe vera face mask at home?

You’ll apply the DIY aloe vera face mask to a clean face with a cotton ball and leave on for about 30 minutes. Remember to do a test patch on your skin before applying it all over.

Can I Use This Mask Everyday?

Yes, you can absolutely use this mask everyday; however, you can also see the benefits when you use it less than daily as well.

Can I Leave It On More Than 30 Minutes?

While I don’t think you should panic if you get busy and it’s on longer than 30 minutes, there is no benefit of leaving it on past half an hour.

How to make aN aloe vera face mask

  1. Slice the aloe leaves down the side so you can open the leaf up like a book. Then use the back of your knife to scrape out the gel inside. Transfer this to a tiny mixing bowl or you could use a small blender.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix or blend until evenly combined, the consistency will be on the thin side, this will give you a light and airy mask.
  3. Apply to a clean face with a cotton ball and leave on for about 30 minutes. If you are sensitive to the scent of apple cider vinegar then you may want to use a little less or plan to keep the mask away from your eyes and nose a bit more
  4. Wash away with warm water and then follow with a moisturizer.
