Martha & Marley Spoon Review | Is the Meal Delivery Service Worth it?

If you’re like me, you hate the question, “What’s for dinner?” Typically, its my own self asking, and I still stress about getting all of the ingredients and actually finding time to cook. I also am not a cook by any means. So when I saw Martha Stewart had a meal delivery service I decided I had to try it! Martha & Marley Spoon shipped me 3 meals free of charge for this review.

The idea that I could make a delicious dinner in 30-45 minutes that was fresh really appealed to me. Plus, I knew I would be getting a GOOD recipe if Martha put her name on it!

For me, I was initially attracted because of Martha’s name.

Then I saw the website — and I loved how easy it was to use! You literally just go to their website, choose the week you want food delivered and pick your favorite recipes.

There are 10 recipes per week to choose from, and they are clearly labeled by benefit like “Kid-Friendly,” “Healthy,” “Under 30 Minutes”.

I was also really impressed by the quality of their ingredients. They work directly with local suppliers and producers to provide fresh ingredients to your doorstep.

The dish bags also made it easy to see which ingredients to use with each meal. Your cold items are packed separately.

Trying the Recipes

First up: Black Bean & Quinoa Taco Bowl

This meal was probably my favorite of all three, but the Beef Stir-fry was a close second.

Prep Time

It took me a bit longer — 45 to 50 minutes, but I’m not a cook by any means. I also was taking pictures every step of the way so I think most could do it in that 30 minute time-frame.

Every step was simple to understand and complete. I really enjoyed knowing everything was made from scratch, and it really did make me feel confident in the kitchen.

And you know how sometimes something doesn’t end up looking like the picture? This totally looks the same to me! I was so proud, and it tasted AMAZING!

Next Recipe: Spicy Stir-Fried Beef

This sounded so good, and it didn’t disappoint! The sauce we made for it was so yummy!

Martha & Marley Spoon Spicy Beef Stir Fry Ingredients

Here’s everything that was in the Dish Bag, and then I also had the beef ready to go in the refrigerator.

Like the Taco Bowl, this recipe also took me about 45 minutes. I was taking pictures and being very mindful of what I was doing though – I do think I would get faster at it! This one was also a prep time of 40 minutes so I was about right on schedule.

The portions for both the Taco bowl and this Spicy Beef Stir Fry were HUGE! You definitely don’t have to worry about not getting full of these meals.

Last Recipe: Seared Steak with Onion Rings

I saved this recipe for last because I thought it would be my favorite. Ironically, it was my least favorite to prep. It did taste really good though! The salad was so yummy and something I would have never tried on my own.

The onion rings were also so simple to make; however, I think I needed more experience cooking a steak on the stovetop. I had things popping everywhere! I eventually covered it to save the walls (no backsplash), but I think it dried it out a bit. We still enjoyed it though, and it was still better than something I would have normally cooked.

Would I order Martha & Marley Spoon’s Meals Again?

Totally!! It was so much fun getting to try something new, and they made it so simple. It also saved me money from mindlessly walking around the grocery store wondering what to pick up.

I love that it made planning what to have for dinner something fun and simple. The meals were simple enough to make, and I love trying something new each week!

Things to Know Before You Order

Right now Martha & Marley Spoon’s meal delivery service is only in some areas; however, it’s here…I feel like they have to have a pretty good range. lol! We aren’t the first to get anything!

The shelf life for the meals is short — the cold items can go in the fridge for a maximum of 4 days.

You’ll also need a few things on hand that I didn’t think about to start with. Now, if you’re semi-domestic you probably already have these…but I’m a far cry from Martha (though I’m getting closer now!).

This part honestly threw me for a small loop. I’m sure it’s on their website, but in my excitement I missed it. So just in case you’re as pumped as I was to cook a yummy dinner, keep in mind you’ll need a few basics.

I can’t help the name of the company, but I assure you – we really did try the product. While the meals take time to prepare, we truly did enjoy them. Hope you find something that works for your dinners.

I thought the food was fresh and very good. I only had one meal that my husband and I didn’t care for. I found some meals took longer then the designated time. Also, they are not one pot meals if you’re looking for quick weeknight meals. I will say the meals were creative and enjoyable to cook.
However, I received double of what my meal order was suppose to be. My two meals a week turned into 4 meals of which was not ordered by me. As it turns out to be an administrative error I continued to get charge for what I didn’t order. Dealing with this service took up a lot of my time on follow up with out resolution to date. If you expect a delivery on time for dinner the same night as delivery that may not happen either as I have received orders at 8 and 9 pm. My biggest disappointment was in trying to resolve my meal plan issue and having the representative put the blame back on me when I can prove I did not order the food. Such poor customer service. Future further action will be taken. So spreading awareness to be on your toes if you go with this service.

Martha and Marley Spoon is a terrible provider. They shipped me a box without all of the recipes needed for the week. I had many ingredients that were lost due to spoilage. M&MS refused a refund or replacement. A month later, I received a delivery that was boxed in a non-insulated box and the cold pack was completely thawed. There was NO cooling remaining. The box was not delivered until almost 8 pm and was not left where I had instructed it. I did not find out that it was at my garage door until almost 10 pm. I complained in writing on their website and have received no response. DO NOT USE. A TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!
