After being frustrated with my own weight loss and pitiful eating habits, I committed Nutrisystem’s Turbo Takeoff. It’s also known as Turbo 10, Turbo 13 and Lean 13. My mom had done it in the past, and I knew it worked. Plus, it looked so simple – order, eat, repeat!
Below is my honest review and results!

As a healthy living blogger, it was hard to admit my own eating habits were suffering after the holidays. I had put on a few extra pounds, and I got into a bad cycle of feeling guilty and weird about it. So I wanted to start something new and fresh.

My Thoughts & Experience On Nutrisystem’s Turbo 13
What does Nutrisystem’s Turbo Takeoff Week Do?
The Turbo Takeoff week is designed to help you see results in the first week. If you’re like me, you want to see the scale move pretty quickly. While it’s not the only way to track your results it can help keep you motivated.
Nutrisystem’s Turbo Takeoff Week promises to help you lose up to 13 lbs and 7 inches overall in your first month. I guess that’s why it can also be called Lean 13.
The Turbo Takeoff foods were put in a special box separate from the other food I ordered. It was super easy to tell which foods belonged to the Turbo 13 plan and which foods were for after that first week.

Turbo Takeoff Week 1 Menu
Since the Turbo 13 program is designed to help you lose 13 lbs in a month, I was a little scared by this first week.
I mean, don’t you have to suffer a little to see that extreme of results?
Nutrisystem’s Turbo Takeoff Week’s Menu includes:
- Specific breakfast, lunch and dinner meals selected from your order
- Mid-morning chocolate TurboShakes™ that is full of protein and probiotics
- An afternoon NutriCurb® bar that is chocolate and peanut butter flavored
- At least 4 servings of veggies (not included with purchase)
- I was put at 1025 calories for the Nutrisystem Turbo Takeoff Week

The system is so easy to follow. I literally pulled it all out of the box Sunday night to start Monday.
I’m not a vegetable lover by any means. So I really wasn’t excited about 4+ servings and thought I might skip them.
That didn’t go well.
Day 1 of the plan, I skipped the veggies, but I woke up HANGRY about 3AM.
So the next day, I picked up bone broth, fresh vegetables like tomatoes, squash and zucchini.
The vegetables did help, but I actually added in one more snack (2 eggs or Nutrisystem’s snacks) each day as well.
I know – I cheated.
Instead, I should have added in more veggies, and it would have been allowed.
I tend to get dizzy and weird if I go too low in my calories though, and that’s how I rationalized it.
For the Turbo 13 week, my goal was 1025 calories. With their NUMI tracker, I found I was only eating about 925.
Both of these numbers are below the normal recommend 1200 calorie base…so I still feel good about adding in my snack.
All in all, I ate about 1100 calories per day. The meals were pretty tasty, and it was super easy.

How many times do you eat?
I ate 5 to 6 time. A typical day was breakfast, a Turbo Shake for a snack, lunch, a NutriCurb® bar, and dinner.
I also added in either a snack or veggies for meal 6 after day 1.

Lean 13 Food
I ate a variety of foods during week 1. Muffins, chili, BBQ, and pizza were all on the plan.
Along with the pictures shown, I also had my Nutricurb bar, shake and veggies!
Nutrisystem’s Turbo Shakes
I actually really enjoyed the shakes on the first two days. On day 3, I began to get tired of the taste; however, they seem to be a top seller of Nutrisystem. So don’t let my need for variety make you worry.
Would you like to save this?
I just mixed the Turbo Shakes with 8oz of water and a little ice and shook them in a shaker cup that was included.
I never had to blend them — which was convenient and easy!
Nutrisystem’s Turbo Shakes Nutrition
The shakes are designed for the Turbo 13 plan, but you can actually order them as your Power Fuel option anytime you want. They consider a Power Fuel something with protein (shakes, eggs, nuts, etc). Here’s a glance at the nutrition.
- 130 Calories
- 2.5g Total Fat
- 15g Total Carbohydrates
- 5g Fiber
- 15g Protein
It also contains probiotics and 22 vitamins. I don’t know if it was the probiotics or fiber, but I did see a difference in my digestion without running to the bathroom.
Nutrisystem NutriCurb® Bar
The bar was pretty tasty, and it did satisfy my sweet tooth. I also liked that it was easy to grab and go!
Here’s a little on it’s nutrition:
- 150 Calories
- 3.5g Total Fat
- 5g Fiber
- 14g Protein
I enjoyed this bar more than the shakes. Just like the shakes, you can also order more of these for after Turbo week. They count as a Power Fuel + Smart Carb though. That’s the equivalent of 1 egg and an orange or peanut butter on whole grain toast.
Lean 13 aka Turbo Takeoff Week Results
Nutrisystem’s first week menu was intense. It was super easy to follow and track, but I was a little hungry at night and relied heavily on added veggies.
Starting Weight: 126.4
After Turbo Takeoff Week: 122
I’ve been a bit slow about finishing this post, so I’m actually on Day 5 of Week 2 now. I’ve replaced the shakes and bars with nuts, eggs and fresh fruit. As of today, I’m down another pound to be at 121!
I normally eat pretty well and workout so the fact I’m losing weight has me excited!!

How many calories do you eat in a day?
The COOL thing about Nutrisystem is your calories are based on your current weight, height and goals
On Turbo Takeoff week, their tracker app had me as 1025 calories which was tough.
Now that I’m into week 2, I’m at 1200 calories based on my goals.
I’m 5’3″ and my goal weight is 117. So someone taller or with more weight to lose will get more food. :) So don’t let those low numbers throw you off.
Nutrisystem’s Tracker NUMI
I’ve been using NUMI to track since week 1. I’m always a fan of a tracker app, and this one is so much easier than MyFitnessPal! I LOVE it because it’s customized to your Nutrisystem food. You can also win prizes for tracking your food each day!
You can also track your results both by weight and by inches within the app.

Was Nutrisystem’s Turbo Takeoff Week Worth the Cost?
I totally think so! I had to adjust to the smaller portions, but I loved getting to eat every 2.5 hours! It’s also SO convenient and easy to follow.
I also love that I still get foods like pizza, turkey mac & cheese, and a loaded potato on the plan. I even got those on the Turbo Takeoff week!
After Nutrisystem’s first week menu, you even get to add in more foods to keep it fresh.
I’m very happy with the purchase and results so far! I’ll be updating our old Nutrisystem Review after I finish this month!

The only thing I didn’t like…
My hope was to do this Lean 13 program for a month, lose my weight, and get back on track with my normal foods. I chose the auto-ship option knowing I would be good about cancelling it. Well – if you do auto-ship and get that major discount (I think it saved me like $75-100) and cancel before month 2, you have to pay a $125 cancellation fee.
So being the budgeting girl I am, I am planning on just delaying the next shipment if I get to my goal. I still love the food so I could treat Month 2 as a treat come this summer before vacation!

I need a complete list of foods on the turbo takeoff,FIRST WEEK, MEAL PLAN.. I RECEIVED MY FOOD YESTERDAY AND MIXED THEM UP BEFORE I KNEW BETTER..
My box included contact information that said who to talk to if I mixed up the foods. I would go to their site and then click on the chat button. They should be able to send it to you because I believe everyone’s breakfast, lunch and dinner options are different based on what you picked. They usually just do the lower calorie ones plus the shakes and bars in week 1.
I ordered two months of nutrisystems. I got the food in two boxes. One frozen and the other shelf food. No menu to follow no order no plan. Really, for what I paid, I am very disappointed I received food and no instructions about what to eat and when! Done before I start basically.
Hey Lynette!
I’m sorry it didn’t include a meal plan! They really try to allow you to customize it once you receive your foods.
Each food (both frozen and shelf) should be labeled as “breakfast”, “lunch,” “dinner,” or “snack”.
You should have a “breakfast”, a morning snack (I usually do a fruit or greek yogurt vs Nutrisystem food), “lunch”, “dinner”, and then a “snack” after dinner. You can also add in afternoon snack if you’re still hunrgy!
Here’s a sample day:
Breakfast: Nutrisystem® Cranberry Orange Muffin, mixed nuts and coffee
Morning Snack: Low-fat plain yogurt
Lunch: Nutrisystem® Hamburger and a side salad
Afternoon Snack: Apple slices with almond butter
Dinner: Nutrisystem® Roasted Turkey Medallions and green beans
Evening Snack: Nutrisystem® White Cheddar Popcorn
I agree with this, I felt so lost! I’m beginning week 2 today and I wish it were easier to follow.
One thing that helped us was sorting the foods based on the meal or snack label on them. We kept breakfast, lunch, and dinner all on different shelves in the pantry. It made it a lot easier when we were in a rush! :) Maybe it would help you too?
I am just starting week 3 and there was a learning curve lol. I chose the plan where I got to choose my meals because I have some mild food allergies and I’m also just a picky eater. I didn’t realize they also sent you specific foods to eat in the first week. I’m guessing the low carb count is why you lose weight faster during that week. However I couldn’t or wouldn’t eat almost every item in that meal plan. My husband ate them so they wouldn’t be wasted.
However in 2 weeks I have lost 16 pounds. I’m sure it helps that I was drinking a lot of sugary drinks before and now I’m drinking only water or no calorie flavored water. I also had fast food one day in the last week and haven’t been able to exercise much thanks to myocarditis (a long term side effect of Covid that caused swelling in my heart, making it beat much faster than it should and causing me to be out of breath just making the bed)
So far the only foods I have not liked were the chocolate breakfast muffin, the garlic cheese flatbread, and the enchilada (the enchilada tasted fine but there was literally ONE chunk of chicken in the whole thing). I LOVE the Chicken Parm, the Apple Strudel bar, the breakfast sandwich, the burgers, and the Mac and cheese. I also ordered some extra stuff a la carte at a discount and my kids really enjoy some of the foods too. They aren’t on diets of course, they just like the taste of the food. If kids enjoy it, it must be good!
Hey Erica!
Wow!! 16 pounds is incredible! It’s so awesome that your whole family has been apart of everything one way or another too! Congratulations, and thanks for sharing your favorite foods and which ones to avoid too!!
I just started – 5 days in. I’ve only lost 3.5 lbs. I too wanted to lose a larger amount right away to motivate me. Based on what I just read above, I should focus eating the meals that are low in carbs for the first few days. So now going forward I’ll find the low carb foods first and hopefully lose more weight right away.
Hey Kathleen! I totally get wanting to see the scale drop quickly, but 3.5lbs in 5 days is great!! I found getting in around a gallon of water each day and getting in activity each day helped more than my attention to carbs too. Activity examples could be getting in a walk, hitting 10,000 steps a day, doing a fun home workout, or even cleaning the house! Just something that gets you moving! :) Congrats on starting Nutrisystem and your weight loss journey!!
