How Many Calories are in an Avocado?

Did you know that an avocado is actually a fruit?  Pretty cool, huh?

This berry as it turns out contains approximately 235 calories per avocado.

I eat 1/4 to 1/2 an avocado per day for the health benefits of the omega-3’s found in an avocado, plus those fats are super good for your skin & hair!!  At 235 calories per cup of sliced avocado (approx a small to med avocado), this fits into day perfectly.

Is it okay to eat a whole avocado every day?

An avocado is a great source of omega-3’s.  We should have about 20% of our calories from healthy fats.

Providing you’re diversifying your diet and getting fat from other sources, you can actually eat a whole avocado per day.

20% is about 60 grams if you’re eating 2,000 calories per day.

A whole avocado has almost 20 grams of those healthy monounsaturated fats all by itself!!

Is Avocado good for losing weight?

Avocados’ energy comes from the fat content primarily.

It’s a low-carb food, and there are several styles of eating that recommend eating a high fat, low carb diet to lose weight.

You can check out those different options in our reviews:  Paleo vs Eating Clean and The Whole 30.

Keto is also another style that has become popular in the low carb/high fat style of eating.

Each individual is different.  I find that I need a few more carbs than the high fat/low carb diets recommend.

Remember if you’re looking to lose weight, you need to consume less calories than you burn per day.

Avocados contain approximately 235 calories per avocado, so while they are a great source of omega-3 fats for you, you do need to diversify your diet and get some veggies, carbs, and proteins in there as well.

Here’s a yummy recipe to get in some of those healthy fats as well as satisfy your sweet tooth.

How many carbs are in a medium sized avocado?

As mentioned above, several people are watching their carbs versus calories.  So just exactly how many carbs does an avocado have?

Avocados have approximately 235 calories per medium avocado, and they come in at 12g total carbs per avocado.

However, having done a time or two with the Atkin’s Diet myself, I know you are probably more interested in Net Carbs.

Avocados have 2g net per 100 grams.

Coming in so low in net carbs puts this powerhouse fruit at the top of the list for Keto dieters.  It is also low in sodium, saturated fats (the bad ones), and low in cholesterol.
