The thing that makes this program different to me is that it focuses on emotional eating and how stress, boredom, and events can impact how we eat. This is so important to me because I do travel often and have dealt with emotional eating over the years.
Another differentiator is that no food is off limits.
The app teaches you which foods are better for fueling your body and hitting your weight loss goals, but you can still have your favorite treats in moderation.
It’s important to remember – Lasting weight loss starts with your lifestyle.
To me, this means no shake, pill, or quick fix is going to help you have lasting results. It really comes down to focusing on your habits and relationship with food.
Otherwise you may yo-yo in your dieting and stress out about your weight for years or even decades.
Noom is a great tool because of the behavior modification material and the support it offers.
We found in our Noom review that it focuses on both the physical and mental pieces of weight loss.
How Noom Works – Our Noom Review
Noom starts with you taking a quiz and downloading the app. Once you’ve done this, a coach introduces you to the program and helps you with your goals and anywhere you are struggling. They also assign you a group of likeminded people to help with support and accountability.
Using the App
The app is really clean and user-friendly! Each day you’re given a checklist, as well as, quick little articles to help with your mindset.
Some of the items on the check list are: weighing in, logging your meals and exercise, and rating your motivation.
The tone used in the articles and checklist is conversational and almost like talking to a supportive friend versus a diet professional.
Also, if you already track your workouts somewhere else, Noom syncs with other apps like: Fitbit, Polar, Garmin Connect, iHealth, Runkeeper, Sony Lifelog, Microsoft, and YOO.
The Human Aspect
You also have a group of actual people helping you with your motivation and progress.
You’ll connect to a Noom Coach who can help with questions and support, as well as, a group of people using the app just like you!
This human-aspect can be helpful when it comes to goal setting, motivation, and tackling specific scenarios that challenge your diet like a girls’ night out or holiday party.
Does Noom Work?
According to Noom, 64% of users lose 5% or more of their body weight, and 60% maintain the loss for one year or more.
We can totally see Noom weight loss happening because of the tracking habits created in the app, as well as, the mindset aspect being worked on through habits and support.
Noom vs Weight Watchers
There are many similarities in Noom vs Weight Watchers. Both plans offer group support, a mentor or coach, and focus on a healthy lifestyle versus restricting certain foods.
With that said – Noom appeals to a younger audience in most cases because of the ease of using the app.
We also noticed Weight Watchers tends to focus heavily on tracking your food and activity, whereas, Noom includes these things but focuses more on the mindset of weight loss and events that can make eating well harder.
Both programs rank foods in some way – Weight Watchers uses points and Noom uses a color-coded system. So while the details of tracking vary, the idea of ranking foods based on their nutritional makeup is in both programs.
Both are also paid programs.
So the thing that puts Noom ahead of Weight Watchers for us is the access to support via the app and the mindset tools.
With that said, both programs are very similar in my opinion.
Does Noom Send You Food?
No, Noom doesn’t send you food or even tell you exactly what to eat. It’s focused on helping you decide what foods fit your lifestyle and giving you the options to choose for yourself.
While the flexibility of the plan may sound scary, it can be an empowering process as you learn healthy habits and which foods work best for your weight loss.

What Do You Eat on Noom?
As we mentioned above, the Noom Diet plan teaches you how to choose the best foods for your body and goals.
- No foods are off-limits.
- You receive food lists categorized as red, yellow, and green.
- Nutrient-dense foods are the focus of the plan; they are your green foods.
- You learn to eat higher calorie and processed foods in moderation.
A Sample Day on Noom
You’ll be able to choose your meals based on your preferences and goals, but we wanted to give you a sample day of what you can expect from the Noom foot lists!
Your calorie target will depend on your activity level, but typically the range will be between 1200-1600 calories per day for women.

No food is off limits with the Noom diet plan, but they do encourage you to eat more nutrient-dense foods and limit highly processed or low-nutrient foods using their color-coded food lists.
The Noom color-coded food lists are super easy to follow and make common sense. You’ll focus on fresh produce and whole foods the most (labeled as green) and minimize how often you have foods like pizza, candy, and wine (labeled as red).
We’ll look at a few of the foods on each of the Noom Food Lists; however, they’re not full lists.

The educational and motivational articles are short, fun, and informative to read. You can read one in 5-10 minutes, and they can help you stay committed and create better habits.
Your Noom Coach
Noom Coaches can help with your goals and habits, but they aren’t registered dietitians. I think of them as a healthy friend there for support.
Noom Coaches go through “Noomiversity” which is a week-long training focused on behavior changes, Noom’s best practices, and how to interact and help users.
After the training, coaches also receive ongoing professional development opportunities and mentorship with their peers.
In order to go through the program, you have to have an associate’s degree or higher, hold a health certification or have 2,000+ hours as a fitness trainer or instructor.
Your Noom Coach typically checks in once a week to talk about your goals and progress like an accountability partner would do.
This is done within the app as a chat. Usually, it’s just a few texts back and forth, but the coach can also help if you’re feeling stuck in your goals and troubleshoot what you can do to see progress.
We found that the coaches weren’t judgmental and were there to help and support members.
It can also be really encouraging to have someone with experience helping you and cheering you on. If you’re going to use the Noom diet plan, we definitely recommend reaching out to your coach for the best results.
Is Noom Free?
Noom is not free, but they do offer a trial period.
How Much Does Noom Cost?
As of right now, Noom costs $59 a month or $99 for 2 months. You can also get a discount if you do longer plans. For example, 4 months is $129, and a 8 month plan is $159.

What makes Noom different?
We really like that Noom focuses on each person’s relationship with food and the aspect of emotional eating.
Another way Noom is different than other programs is the amount of support offered. Your Noom coach can help answer questions, provide tips, and help motivate you to stay on track.
We also love that no food is completely off limits. While we want to feel and look our best, we also want to enjoy a glass of wine or a plate of nachos with friends occasionally!
The plan is super flexible and doesn’t require a ton of time or self restriction to see results.
